Glass toys often surprise people. They look like jewellery, feel smooth and weighty, and — when made from toy-grade glass — are one of the most hygienic materials available. Here's what to know.
Are glass toys safe?
Quality glass toys are made from strong, thick glass designed for this purpose, and they're non-porous: there's nowhere for bacteria to hide, so they're easy to clean thoroughly. The key is to inspect them before every use and retire any piece with a chip or crack.
Why people love glass
- Smooth, glassy glide — especially with lube.
- Firm and weighty, which many people find satisfying for pressure.
- Temperature play — glass holds warmth or coolness.
- Compatible with any lube, including water-based like plusOne Aloe Glide.
- Beautiful — easy to keep looking new.
Check before every use
Run your fingers over the whole surface and look closely in good light. If you find any chip, crack or rough spot, don't use it. Store glass wrapped in a soft pouch so it can't knock against other hard objects, and avoid dropping it on hard floors.
Temperature play
Glass can be gently warmed or cooled for a different sensation:
- Warm: place it in a bowl of warm (not hot) water for a few minutes.
- Cool: run it under cool water or place it in a bowl of cool water. Avoid the freezer.
- Always test the temperature on your inner wrist before use.
- Avoid sudden extremes — rapid temperature changes can stress glass.
Glass plugs
For anal play, always choose a toy with a flared base. The Rosé Crystal Glass Plug is smooth, non-porous and pretty enough to feel special. Use plenty of lube and go slowly — our beginner's guide to anal play covers the essentials.
Cleaning glass
Wash with warm water and mild soap or toy cleaner, rinse, and dry completely. Because glass is non-porous, it cleans beautifully. See our full cleaning and storage guide.
